Front it, don't fight it

An API gateway and middleware layer normalizes core, ledger, and card-processor calls behind a modern contract. New products build against that contract; the core keeps doing what it already does correctly.

Cache aggressively, write carefully

Reads can be cached and projected into fast stores for dashboards and search. Writes stay narrow, idempotent, and fully audited — the boring path is the correct path when money moves.

Strangle over time

Once the middleware owns the contract, individual core capabilities can be migrated behind it one at a time, with no client rewrite. That's how modernization ships without a big-bang cutover.
